Aid - Kiva
Todays subject is Aid.
Growing up as a son to a priest one of the important thing I learned was to give to others that needed help. And so I have done periodically through the years. I have supported The Red Cross, Lutherhjälpen (A Swedish aid connected to the Swedish Lutheran church), these has been the one’s I have trusted. And I have felt that there are other organizations that I might have helped to, but felt uncertain to do so.
I think it’s important and our duty as citizens in a more privileged part of the world to help, so why I’m writing this is because one of my friends over at Jaiku (Joakim Jardenberg) has started an action over at his company website Mindpark (Sorry, in Swedish!) and will support the organization KIVA I quote:
“You may have heard of micro-loans already. In its simplest form is that by small and rapid credit can stimulate economic activity, especially in developing countries. The concept got a lot of attention 2006 when the Grameen Bank and Muhammad Yanus shared the Nobel Peace Prize. The justification was: “For its efforts to create economic and social development from below. Lasting peace can not be created without a large population finds ways to break out of poverty. Micro-credit is one such means.”
So what can we do? I suggest that everyone reading this blog goes to KIVA and read what they have to say, and make a contribution in form of a loan, you will get you money back! I’m going to do it!
